The ROTO objective

Play with everyone. Stay active. Have fun.

Rotating partners

ROTO stands for rotating partners. The objective is to play with everyone in the league, stay active throughout the season and have fun while competing.

  • Partners rotate so players meet and play with as many league members as possible.
  • Participation and staying active matter alongside winning.
  • Keep every match welcoming, fair and enjoyable.

Doubles Tennis scoring

  • One set is played. The winner receives 8 points; each losing player receives the games won + 1.
  • A pair can be used only once in a tournament, in either order, forcing players to rotate.

Score format: games

  • Winner: each player receives 8 points.
  • Loser: each player receives the losing score plus 1.
  • A pair can be used only once in a tournament, which forces players to rotate partners.
  • Qualification: players must complete at least 4 approved matches.

Match submission

  • Submit the date, participants, partner assignments and final score accurately.
  • Only approved matches count toward standings and qualification.
  • Organizers may review, approve or reject a submission to keep results accurate.

Doubles partnerships

  • ROTO means rotating partners: players are paired with a different partner for each match.
  • A pair can be used only once in a tournament, in either order. This forces players to rotate and play with everyone.
  • Players should resolve scheduling or score disputes with the tournament organizer.

Playoffs

  • The playoffs follow the regular season. At most half of the ranked players advance based on the standings; there is no minimum match requirement to enter the playoff draw.
  • Quarterfinals (16 players): with 32 or more ranked players, the top 8 on the leaderboard are randomly partnered with the players ranked 9 to 16.
  • Semifinals (8 players): with 16 to 31 ranked players, the top 4 are randomly partnered with the players ranked 5 to 8.
  • Later rounds: the losing pair in each match is eliminated, so only the opening round is drawn in advance. After the results are in, the surviving players swap partners and the next round is set.
  • Straight to the final: with fewer than 16 ranked players there are no earlier rounds. The top 2 are randomly partnered with the players ranked 3 and 4 for a single final. Leagues with fewer than 8 ranked players also go straight to the final (the half-of-the-field limit does not apply), as long as at least 4 players have played.
  • The opening-round playoff pairs are published on the leaderboard once the season ends.

Tournament setup

  • Each tournament defines its sport, start date, end date and scoring system.
  • New players can register while signups are open and space is available.
  • Organizers should publish any sport-specific scoring details before play begins.
